Off work today, but short on energy
Because of online chatting late last night
Breakfasted while watching war DVD
And Jeremy Kyle (unmissable sight)
Whenever I’m off, I enjoy the plight
Of chavs giving abuse, getting abuse
Although to some, to say so isn’t right
Maybe they’d like to live next to such crews
And hear their late night arguments and screws
Finished episode three of comedy
Since then, not done much, cause I couldn’t fight
Tiredness and laziness… Oui, je m’accuse!
But now, after a nap, it’s time for me
To practice the two songs I’ll sing tonight

719 - The flickering flame
A day of sport, of sorts, sat watching that
Best festival of testing from Beijing
Each vest the fastest, highest, strongest, sat
Watching that, though I ought to be writing.
The thought of writing’s biting and tugging
At me; we’re wrestling boxers, arms entwined
The red and blue vests, hot and cold, winning
And losing; to win gold, I’ve got to find
Some extra strength to last the length, unwind
The knot of memories till they lie flat
Like eight lanes under floodlights, me running
Between, relating, relaying; refined
Technique showing on replay, re-read, sat
Reading the dream book that I’m not writing

421 - Serves me wrong
My email's not working! Come on, server
Do what it says on the tin, and serve me
So now, cos I'm such a lazy bugger
The deadline date's tomorrow for entry
Into a big contest of poetry
And guess what? I've not yet got round to e-
Mailing it off. Lazybones, luckily
Has not yet written the poem that he
Would have entered. Laziness pays, tee hee!
Oh well, no point in worrying when there
Are sayings just for this, like 'C'est la vie!'
So, be stoical of philosophy
Let the chips fall where they may, I don't care
Fish and chips! Mmm, now that's got me hungry...

275 - The frozen minds of corpses turned to dust
The frozen minds of corpses turned to dust
Will mock me from the shelf at evening time;
As shiny new ambition turns to rust,
I’ll be amused with tempo, music, rhyme.
My temple stands unused, and no bells chime
Their welcome appeals for the pilgrim’s ear
That yearns to hear refrains above the grime
Of mankind’s living pains and grimmest fear.
I grimace, but disdain for one more year
To finish what it is so plain I must,
Instead of skimming surfaces, a crime
That most commit while doing their time here.
Convicted of conflicting thoughts, I just
Can’t decide whether to lie down, or climb.

93 - The problem: not enough hours in the day
The problem: not enough hours in the day.
How do you seize a flying bullet, hmm?
It hits you, you fall backwards. Like a bum,
You dream of some escape, some bed of hay.
We want the womb or tomb, not stress or strife.
Our bodies argue, What’s the point of it?
Have kids and chatter, pour a drink, and sit.
It doesn’t matter, just enjoy your life.
But dreams and schemes will rust, infecting us
With lethargy and resignation if
They’re not well-oiled, and we’ll grow old and stiff,
Accepting that fortune’s rejecting us.
Acceptance is the final stage of death.
Work hard, then harder, till that final breath!

10 - Inertia, enemy of all success
Inertia, enemy of all success,
Slows down my blood and turns on my TV.
There’s nothing good can come from laziness,
Or cigarettes or pills, wine or whiskey.
Can’t buy a thrill, or love: I’ve got to earn
It all. But first, where does my talent lie?
All marketing immediately I spurn.
All networking just makes me want to die.
It’s not me but my work I hope you’ll like.
And what is friendship but a business deal -
Like all deals, needing a big mouth to strike?
The biggest mouth will eat the biggest meal.
My lips don’t move, save when I read the rules
Of apes and grooming, taught in homes and schools.
