Bill Clinton came to Manchester today
To praise Blair, not to bury him. Meanwhile,
Gordon ‘Brutus’ Brown sat ten yards away -
The would-be assassin, armed with a smile.
This man who would be king looks down on us.
A British leader’s not elected; he
Is crowned by powerful men. ‘Twas ever thus;
Civil wars do not bring democracy.
But one man, one vote might be even worse:
We vote according to our pockets, not
For good of all. So who are we to curse
The nobleman, the lawyer, in their yacht?
Whether we work or shirk, we’re envious,
Eating our bread, laughing at the circus.
