Today I ran, down by the riverside,
From Manchester to Salford Quays and back.
I try to keep fit, but I would have lied
If I’d said that I didn’t smoke a pack.
And so we live, part right, part wrong. Today
Is for enjoyment. Or, for tomorrow,
Should we postpone it, and always delay
Luxury? I have books which say they show
The way to riches. Easy, claims the blurb,
And so you buy and read them. But they go
Into such detail that it quite disturbs
Your peace of mind. Better to take it slow!
My will power ebbs, just like the river flows.
Where are we going to? The river knows.
