913 - Knights of the long knives

We sit at our long row of desks and chat
Occasionally working fairly hard
We drink tea and coffee, eat a biscuit
Read Excel spreadsheets and Microsoft Word
Remembering when promotion last occurred
It seems like it was in the last ice age
‘Career prospects’ sometimes sounds absurd
When reading it on some Intranet page
They’re closing more tax offices, wreckage
Of the expensive public sector that
Must be dismantled, privatised, the cards
Collapsed on purpose, huffing, puffing rage
Of right-wing wolves blowing it down, the fat
Gobbled up by these knights with flashing swords
