529 - Preparing to perform

No luck for me on St Valentine’s night.
But, while in the spare room, I memorised
Some poems that I’m going to read tonight;
Hopefully I’ll be pleasantly surprised
At managing it. It’s years since I tried
To stand up and recite from memory:
I still remember just wanting to hide,
But going on stage to try comedy
On open mic night; not something to be
Done lightly. Often, my voice isn’t right,
It’s too monotonous. Be energised,
O vocal cords, and let the words float free
From nerves and weakness. Let the tone be light,
Floating like a boat that can’t be capsized.
