555 - Fun fun fun

The ice cream van sells childish happiness
While playing ‘three blind mice’ down windy streets.
Meanwhile their daddies’ hopes rise none the less
In stadiums dishing out drab defeats.
Their mummies drip white wine on unwashed sheets
Enjoying pre-Budget price cigarettes,
But all evening relaxation competes
With little feet and voices, kids and pets.
The cold red noses, more than at the vet’s,
Pile back inside with lollies to undress.
‘And while you’re at it kids, throw me some eats!’
The mummies shout, faces a-flicker. Let’s
Wrap up our stay, exit to wilderness,
Stand at the bus stop, shiver on bus seats.
