Thank goodness for eggs. They saved me tonight.
I got home feeling peckish, and thinking
I wouldn’t satisfy my appetite,
Because in the cupboard there was nothing.
But then, as I was casually looking
In the fridge, as you do, my luck was good:
A half-dozen ovoid treats, just laying
In wait. I could not avoid them, and would
Not hesitate to boil and eat this food,
This manna from Sainsburys, this delight-
Ful manner of empty belly filling,
Thanks to some paltry poultry. I conclude:
Be selfish - shell out on this dish! Its bright
Delicious yellow yolk’s hunger-shrinking!
