315 - Before I start, I must open the door

Before I start, I must open the door:
There, that’s better! I was starting to sweat!
It’s humid because it’s about to pour
With yet more rain again, with yet more wet!
This heat reminds me: oh, I can’t forget
How hot it was that summer in New York
When the humidity just wouldn’t let
Me do much at all; certainly no work.
We detest a siesta; we don’t talk
Of slackening or sleeping! We call for
Cool air-conditioning, and then we get
Back down to it like mad dogs. We don’t shirk!
(Inspired by ironing a shirt or four
To Noel Coward tunes in summer’s heat.)
