190 - Do not fear death, do not mourn for the dead

Do not fear death, do not mourn for the dead;
They do not grieve, so surely we should not
Live life in an expectant state of dread
Of nothingness that’s neither cold nor hot.
Success and failure, all will be forgot:
Meaningless money, fantasies of fame,
Traveller’s tales and soldier’s sharpest shot,
Each land of milk and honey, football game,
Each love, each sexual thrill from whence we came,
Each faithful friend and word of wit we said,
Cleverly crafted novel, movie plot.
Even vast voids, huge asteroids we’ll tame
When we return to dust, soon to be fed
Back into our original black dot.
