Had the Big Bang not banged just when it did
Had it not held the same ingredients
Had atoms not repulsed and collided
Had things not cooled and spread, become less dense
Had gravity not led to those immense
Dust clouds collapsing into giant suns
Had heat there not forged heavy elements
Had they not been flung out in explosions
Had one such rock’s yearly circulations
Been elsewhere, seas would be gas or solid
Had sea and sun not bred life that could sense
Had fish not changed into amphibians
Had apes not walked, talked, burned, produced this kid…
Where would this sonnet be? Oh far, far hence!
