Dark clouds hung over Salford, shedding tears
For those behind the office window-pane.
Another decade lost? The chat, the beers
Do compensate at lunchtime, but the rain
Reminds us. Will we ever sail to Spain
Again? We have some money, but our days
Are theirs. So, only quick flights on a plane
To cheap hotels the travel agent says
We have to stay in. Walk the pilgrim’s way
To Santiago? Castles, snow-white peaks?
No! We employees usually have to stay
On overcrowded beaches for two weeks.
Now, even that’s a daily office drug.
Where to next year? We sadly smile, and shrug.
