8 - Downloading music or buying CDs

Downloading music or buying CDs,
Or, in the old days, vinyl and cassette;
Who knows what’s still to come? And my LPs,
The snows of yesteryear. But their spirit
Outlives their buried, blackened skin. I hear
The plucked guitar strings of the glorious dead;
Victorious violins in spinning spheres;
Reanimated voices in my head.
This ghostly passion greater than my own,
Distilled into a universal tongue,
Floats on, floats over graveyards overgrown,
Forgotten by descendants still too young
To picture themselves also lying still
In mountains of now obsolete landfill.
