Today we drove up north to Newcastle
(And boy we got our fun on the A1).
We got there early - there was no hassle -
To see the Magpies beat Watford 2-1.
St James’ Park is a great stadium:
I took some photos of its lofty height.
The local trains packed out with Christmas hum,
And football fans with scarves of black and white.
It was surprising that chips weren’t for sale
At half-time, so instead dad and son fought
(In friendly fashion, natch). We had a whale
Of a boxing match. We just love our sport.
Now home again, I shall watch the TV
Replay of the game we went north to see!
