Let’s have a debate about punishment
Of criminals. Keep building more prisons
Or lock up less of them? Should less be sent
There, and only the most violent ones,
While others, instead of making them cons,
Be humiliated by victims in
Public? They used to chain them in stocks once,
And people threw tomatoes at them. Sin
Varies in degree. Also, we don’t win
If the expense of mass imprisonment
Outweighs the gain of teaching wayward sons
And daughters to reform (so hard within
Those walls). We need to see an improvement
In them, and in our system, and save funds.
