Democracy alone is not enough;
It needs to be of the liberal kind,
Belief and non-belief respected; tough
On those who curtail freedom of the mind.
For it alone shields all minorities
From the oppressing crowd with stone in hand.
When faith guides leaders, love itself can freeze
Into cold war, between east and west land.
Mushrooming warheads, death in Vietnam
Last time; this time the axis of evil
Must be destroyed, like Carthage. Uncle Sam
McCarthy rides again, and will, until
We live and let live. Liberality
Is as important as democracy.
