The nineties began with me starting work
At last - something I had delayed till then.
I think we need it, otherwise we shirk
Life’s challenges, and hide away from men.
Alternatives are drugs and crime, maybe?
Ravage your brain and body, sit in jail,
Rent-free, great friends around you, though they be
A touch violent sometimes. How could it fail?
Another British lifestyle is the sick:
The permanently stressed, with doctor’s note,
Drawing their welfare; almost idyllic.
Meanwhile, working tax-free for friends, they gloat.
Work makes us fit and healthy citizens,
Helps others, and expands our horizons.
