Society is ordered using fear.
Not just at state level, but anywhere -
The boss’s desk, or father’s old armchair
Strike pain into our cranial hemisphere.
In social groups we are assigned our roles
By leaders who jealously guard the script.
If anyone says a wrong word, they’re ripped
From the cast list, cast out like poor damned souls.
Free speakers, they end up like Socrates,
Drinking the poison of society’s scorn.
Conform, and, good or bad, no sword is drawn
Against you. Leaders just do as they please:
They give lip service to ideals of love,
But rule through fear. They are more hawk than dove.
